The Foundation's Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Threat Unit is a joint Scientific, Medical, and Combative Task Force. The CBRN Threat Unit is tasked with CBRN Defense including:
- Handling naturally caused chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear hazards which may be too difficult or too widespread for national level CBRN Units to handle.
- Handling standalone anomalous or otherwise unknown chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear hazards.
- Handling natural, anomalous, or otherwise unknwon chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear hazards which are suspected to or have been confirmed to be caused by an anomalous entity, object, or event.
- Quarantine areas or subjects suspected or confirmed to be affected by a anomalous or otherwise unknown chemical, biological, radiological, or nuclear hazard.
- Enforcement of quarantine procedures.
- Study of anomalous or otherwise unknown chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear hazards.
- Treatment of living organisms afflicted by anomalous or otherwise unknown chemical, biological, radiological, or nuclear hazards.
- Combative operations in areas afflicted by or against entities afflicted by anomalous or otherwise unknown chemical, biological, radiological, or nuclear hazards.
- Cleanup of Foundation caused chemical, biological, radiological, or nuclear hazards, particularly cleanup of radiation from facility warheads.
- Removal of anomalous or otherwise unknown and dangerous pharmaceuticals and recreational drugs from the public.
The Foundation's CBRN Threat Unit in action.
The CBRN Threat Unit's main objective is the lockdown, study, and treatment of chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear hazards. The CBRN Threat Unit, like ACIID, is both a national and Foundation unit called on for threats that may require the Foundation's expertise to handle. Almost all SCPs that fall under the CBRN Threat Unit's field are studied and handled by researchers who are cleared for CBRN work.
The CBRN Threat Unit constantly changes in size. Typically, numbers are low, and consist of mainly MTF Beta-7 "Maz Hatters" Units. When in need of additional forces, members of Scientific, Medical, and Combative Departments are given a 12-Hour Intensive Training (commonly reffered to as a "12-HIT") session mainly related to the current situation. One 12-HIT session permits units to assist with CBRN Threat Unit Operations for up to 30 days. Personnel who wish to become more permanent members of the CBRN Threat Unit may take a 2-Week Intensive Training (commonly referred to as a "2-WIT") which will allow those who go through with the course up to one year of membership. All personnel except those belonging to MTF Beta-7 are required to take this training course annually unless they no longer wish to be a member of the CBRN Threat Unit. Due to the nature of the CBRN Threat Unit, all personnel who become members will be both permitted and expected to uphold the duties of their Foundation job as well as their assigned CBRN Threat Unit. Those who wish to voluntarily join should consider whether or not they'll be able to handle the workload before going through with the 2-WIT course. When the CBRN Threat Unit is in need of additional temporary personnel, 12-HIT sessions will replace 2-WIT sessions entirely until the situation is handled. Personnel who join via 12-HIT sessions are given permission to cut down on their typical Foundation duties.
